So close to the finish line! But the hardest challenge is ahead. 3… 2… 1… GO!!!
ON FINAL SIX
What’s cool is that I am past the “doing as best I can” point, and I’m officially at the “see where the numbers are at 7/6 and shoot for the win” point. Never thought after that third vote, that I would ever be in this position. C’MON! Never expected to make final 6 after all that, especially without ever duelling, and to be the last player to never duel. How did that happen? I saw the grips of death and decided, never again.
I’ve been kind of a stress head at points, but this has been a really fun game and I’ve loved my journey in it thus far. However it ends now, I’ll be totally satisfied. I’ver certainly thrown myself into it headfirst. Probably this, PvZ and TNB are the games in the last 6 years I’ve become most invested in- all ARENA, yes. But I think it’s that they all had a hugely dramatic week 1 moment that just just kicked my ass into gear, and from then on, I never stopped.
ON SURVIVING
This is where things are getting interesting. I'm in a weird position now, where if I make FTC without duelling, I think I have an amazing case against anyone. So avoiding THE RING not only gets me there, but it’s also pertinent to my case at the end. Say if I win two duels here, make the end, and Squirt gets there only duelling once? Squirt probably beats me. It’s almost like the more that I avoid duels, it becomes both harder to avoid duelling, but also more important that I do. I really think if I’d been sent in at 8, I’d be set up phenomenally well here, it’s crazy. All the heat would be on Squirt, Wario would probably wanna face me, Falc wouldn’t be aimed my way. That is how ARENA works though, and also what makes it such an exciting format to play, because the dynamics can't be predicted. Case in point: spending the entire Thursday strategising for a Squirt boot, only to have it upended at the last moment, after I was already too deep in another direction. That was a freakin' mess in the end. But if Robin had stayed, and I hadn't prepped Dedede for something? I'd have probably been fucked.
This set-up now is like a puzzle. Different players want me out a different times- Falco, probably now. Squirt and Wario, probably 5 or 4. Kazuya and Yosh, maybe happy for me not to go in at all. Then, there’s the shield bids. I have 39, could that win a shield at some point? Possibly- but sure one or two here have 41 up their sleeve. A whole heap of different factors going on. So it becomes about arranging the pieces around in a way that lets me squeak by, until all of a sudden, I’m somehow at the end. There is a path here- I know there is one, there’s got to be. I just need to figure out what it is. This really reminds me of TNB endgame, actually. I was at final 6, and the path to final 2 seemed impossible without duelling. But somehow, it happened. There’s always a way. You just gotta figure it out.
One problem I’m having right now, is the cards. What if Squirt had the GOLD smash ball all along? With that, and a 41 bid, he makes FTC as long as he survives this round. And then wins. I love Squirt, and I’d love for him to win if not me, but I always shoot to win. I’m strongly considering pulling a 3-2-1 here. Strongly considering it. With Squirt out of the picture, but Kazuya on my side, and if Yosh was on my side, I’d only need to make sure Falc and Wario voted differently to potentially make 4. If I can make 4 with Kaz and Yosh, then I have a chance again to pull something off. Of course, it depends on Kaz being loyal, maybe he’ll cut me in the end, who knows. But I’m more sure that Squirt would send me in THE RING, than I am of Kaz. By the same token, I ain't afraid to lose in the end here, and I'd rather make the end and lose, than not at all. I've never made the end and lost before, I'm ready for it to happen, it'd be a fitting end for THE CAPTAIN in many ways too. Problem is that I don't think Squirt wants me in the end either.
ON THE WEEKEND
It's Mardi Gras in Sydney so I'm probably gonna be hungover most of tomorrow and won't be back here for at least 24 hours, so even if I figure out the perfect direction, no clue if I'd even be up to trying to put it in place. Then again I don't drink or stay out like I used to, so could be just fine. We'll see.
But right now I need to EAT UP to line the GUT, then I'll hit the GROOVES and SHOW YA ME MOVES!
