Just like the source material, this duel will involve travelling from one side of a board to another by answering trivia questions. This board will be a grid of hexagons; answering the question on a given hexagon will allow you to pass through to any of the adjacent hexagons. Each of the hexagons will have a colour and matching symbol indicating the category of the question. The six categories are identical to those in the game Trivial Pursuit.
Symbol | Category |
Art and Literature | |
Entertainment | |
Geography | |
History | |
Science and Nature | |
Sport and Leisure |
You will want to plan your route through the board to encounter question categories that you feel more confident answering. In addition, there will be one red Honeycomb space that does not contain a question; more on that later.
The questions themselves will all be in the style of "Who/What/Where/When Am I?", followed by a series of clues. You will select a question by clicking on a hex on the game board image you'll see when beginning the challenge. Each question will be clearly numbered in its category, and you'll submit answers in the form of triggers. These will take the form of the question number, followed by the answer in all caps with no spaces or punctuation. For example, if the first Entertainment question was
Who Am I?
I am from Japan
I created Kirby and Super Smash Bros.
I am the host of this game
I am from Japan
I created Kirby and Super Smash Bros.
I am the host of this game
then the trigger to post would be ENTERTAINMENT1MASAHIROSAKURAI. Posting the correct answer in your duel thread will cause the trigger to reveal a small image confirming that you're correct. Three of the question hexes will also reveal an image that allows you to pass through the Honeycomb space; these will be located in more out-of-the-way hexes, but beyond that, you'll need to find them yourself.
Once you've answered enough questions in your duel thread to form a path from the start to the end of the board, post the phrase "FINISH CHALLENGE"
Research is both allowed and encouraged, and you may answer questions in any order for as long as you form a path from the start to the end. Should you get stuck, you may also skip questions. You can do this simply by posting FINISH CHALLENGE without having answered enough questions to form the path. This will come at the cost of a time penalty of 10 minutes for each question skipped in the path. We'll calculate the minimum number of penalties to complete the path for you in doing so.
The fastest time(s) after penalties will survive The Ring and, if applicable, select a team to return to. The loser will be eliminated from the game. Note that you will be responsible for verifying the correctness of your path. For the sake of fairness, the hosts will not be able to do this for you, so be sure to triple check that you have completed the challenge once you've finished.
