Appearing in two different forms in Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings, Magicant is a surreal physical embodiment of a particular character's memories and consciousness. Featuring mint-green rivers flowing through a landscape of fluffy pink clouds, it became a popular left-field choice when revealed as a stage for Super Smash Bros. For 3DS, where it looked gorgeous. While its plot significance is niche and hard to explain, we'll be drawing on the location's surrealism and your memories in this duel.
Your task will be to recognise the characters from this game that will be featured in ten avatars. Much like the Earthbound villain Giygas, each of these avatars will be distorted in some way. This could involve filters, colour changes, rotations, mirroring, or even a combination of these. These avatars will not feature any text or tokens seen on your standard avatars and will have the same background and border. As such, you will only have the characters themselves to go on. These characters can be drawn from any of the hosts and the players, but not the lurkers, and each character will appear no more than once in the challenge.
Because memories can blur together, there is a further complication; each distorted avatar will feature two characters! This means you'll need to identify both characters featured in each avatar. You will score one point for each character you correctly identify, meaning the maximum score is 20 points. You will still score a point if you correctly guess one character in an avatar and get the other wrong, so don't be afraid to guess if you need to! This duel will have a time limit of 15 minutes.
To give your answers for each avatar, simply post its number followed by your answers in your duel thread. Make sure it is very clear to us what expression your answer is for; if we're in any way unsure when tallying your answer, we'll consider it incorrect. There is no need to answer in any particular order, so feel free to skip if you get stuck. You may also change your answers for an avatar as many times as you like before the time limit passes. Of course, we will only consider the most recent answer for each when tallying.
The player(s) with the highest score(s) will survive the arena and, if applicable, select a tribe to return to. The loser will be eliminated from the game. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the player who reached the tied score in the shortest time.
