Yoshi's Story's Super Happy Tree grows every type of fruit found on the tropical paradise that is Yoshi's Island. It is the central feature of Super Smash Bros. 64's Yoshi's Island stage, which was renamed Super Happy Tree in Ultimate to avoid confusion with other stages from Melee and Brawl. This tree is stolen in the prologue of Yoshi's Story, prompting a colourful band of Yoshi's to retrieve it. Each Yoshi has a different favourite fruit that they prefer, but the Yoshis in this challenge are a bit fussier. You'll need to pick out combinations of fruit cards that please the Yoshis to score points.
When you first start the duel, you will see a trigger phrase. Post it in your duel thread and you will see another trigger phrase, plus a collection of 12 cards. Each card will have four traits, each of which come in three varieties. These are:
- Fruit type (apple, grape, watermelon)
- Number of fruit (1, 2, 3)
- Fruit wholeness (entire, outline, or holey)
- Background colour (cyan, magenta, yellow)
Your objective is to identify tasty fruit salads of three cards that for each of the four traits, are either all the same, or all different. To identify a fruit salad, simply list the numbers of the three cards you believe fit the bill, numbering them from left to right, top to bottom; 1, 2, 3, 4 along the top row, 5, 6, 7, 8 along the middle one, and so on. For example, the following combination of cards would be a fruit salad:
(All the same colour, all the same number of fruits, all different fruits, all different wholeness)
While this wouldn't be, owing to its pair of watermelons and a grape:
You'll score 1 point for each fruit salad you identify, but you'll lose 1 point if you identify one incorrectly, so be careful!
There are four of these collections of 12 cards. Once you're done finding fruit salads for the first collection, you can post the trigger phrase that appeared with it in caps, and the word-filter system will cause the next collection to appear. Once you do this, however, you can't go back to the previous collection. You'll continue finding fruit salads and then moving on (replacing 1 with 2 etc in the phrases) until either you finish with all four collections, or until the 15-minute time limit expires, whichever comes first.
One final note: every collection will have fewer total fruit salads than the previous collection! Use this to inform how you manage your time.
The highest score(s) will survive The Ring and, if applicable, select a team to return to. The loser will be eliminated from the game. If there is a tie, it will be broken in the favour of the one with the fewest incorrect fruit salads, and then if still tied, the fastest time to completion.
