Kongo Jungle is one of the original stages from Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. Named after the first world in the original Donkey Kong Country game, it features a staple mechanic from those games, barrels! Barrels can, among other things, launch your Kongs in several directions. In the Super Smash Bros stage, a fickle barrel hovering below the stage can result in saving you from a certain KO, or dooming you to defeat depending on which direction it is facing. In the Super Smash Arena iteration, we've included a lot more barrels to help you get back up!
When you first start the duel, you will see a grid arrangement of barrels. Each barrel has a number of green arrows on it, indicating the directions it can launch you:
The barrels are displayed on a grid to make the possible options from each barrel clear. You will always launch exactly one grid space in the direction the arrow points. Barrels explode upon use, therefore you can never use the same barrel twice in your path. Your goal is to reach from the bottom of the maze all the way to the top where the Kongo Jungle stage is visible. You will have to use image-editing software like Paint to draw your chosen path on the barrel grid. Your time will start when you post the trigger phrase revealing the maze and will stop when you post the maze with your solution.
However, this is one more aspect to this challenge; collectibles. In the style of Donkey Kong Country, there are a number of items obtainable by launching between barrels. The collectibles you find will lower your time by different amounts.
- For every 5 Bananas you collect, your time will lower by 1 second.
- Banana Bunches contain 10 bananas and lower your time by 2 seconds.
- Banana Coins lower your time by 5 seconds
- The special DK Coin lowers your time by 10 seconds. There is only one of these in the maze.
The collectibles are displayed between barrels like this:
Launching from the top right barrel to the bottom left barrel would collect all 3 bananas. Launching from the bottom right to the top left would only collect 1 banana.
The fastest time(s) including collectibles will survive The Ring and, if applicable, select a team to return to. The loser will be eliminated from the game. Note that you will be responsible for verifying the correctness of your solution. For the sake of fairness, the hosts will not be able to do this for you, so be sure to triple check that your solution is valid before posting.
