Since I took a while to get these going, I figured I'd give a brief rundown on the first day of play! After a bit under 10 hours to PM in the day, on Night 1, there was a Team Selection, which you can see in the Notices subforum. The long-story-short is that the three teams ended up being: One player did not join a team, however; Yoshi took the opportunity to join The Ring. He would participate in the first duel, but be immune from leaving the game. He can message anyone in the game right now and will join one of the teams after the first duel taking place after Sunday's first vote. Yoshi wasn't the only one immune from the first vote. For joining their teams first, Robin, Captain Falcon and King Dedede won immunity for the round, as well as the right to attend the Spectator Stands, a subforum where inter-team communication is allowed, and they receive a clue to the Smash Ball. So far on Red, Mario has only just shown up and has a battle ahead of him, while Green seems filled with active players, having filled up very quickly in the Night 1 event. That could cause an early upset if their numbers whittle down quickly. Blue is a bit of a cagier team, but I'm sure that will evolve as the deadline approaches!

Thanks for the update! Was just about to read team selection thread. Wondering how did nobody selected Yoshi after that funny "Yoshi's eggs" message?!

Nevermind, just realized how team selection worked very interesting idea! It's a fun one for sure! It owes a bit to Master Hand's Hyrule Warriors game from a while back! I added the incentive for signing up first and the twist of going to the duel and skipping the first round. If I'm honest that last part came about because the game got a lot more interest than I anticipated and I ended up pushing my cast out past the maximum I had in mind to 22.

One player had a particularly big role, but that's not public knowledge yet so I'll keep it quiet for now. Red is mostly full of some of the players who were quieter through the first hours leading up to the selection, and I think that played a role in Red filling up last. Some of them are definitely more dedicated than they seem and kept quiet deliberately. Blue probably just had a player or two more who was active very early. Squirtle's shtick for example would make a super strong impression.

Did Duck Hunt just play the smash ball straight away?
Can't say I'm surprised by the choices of who got sent to the ring. Blue was more of a mystery until Ike's post about sending the captain in when he's not immune, despite it probably bring scarasm.

Duck Hunt didn't play the Smash Ball, though I can confirm at least one has been found. You might have noticed the key to the password already if you've read things closely? Blue was the most suspenseful, but that's because of some wires getting crossed and a very interesting self-vote I think the tension will gradually ramp up as the week goes on This first duel will be interesting; I'm a little sad it got picked because it was the only one I didn't get to properly prepare for since my booster levelled me all day on Saturday.

I think I'm gonna drop the character bit here, it feels too weird to be the only one doing it I wondered when reading the rules if anyone would blow through their good cards early in an effort to be less of a threat; I guess that'd Duck Hunt's plan (if they have one) so I'm excited to see how it plays out for them. Mario self-voting feels super rough, they'd be my top pick to lose here from a spectating point of view. Red feels like it's largely not much going on? I'm sad I've seen so little of Isabelle in public since the start of the game, she seems cute. Robin is growing on me, but that's prolly because they're the only member of the team that I can see play the game really. I felt like on Blue it was between Marth and Ike, so when Marth showed up and had any personality I kind of figured it's swing to Ike. I wonder which of the two self-voted? Maybe Ike knew things weren't going well for him there, so he self-voted and then jumped into the ring hoping to swap to a new team. Otherwise Blue has the most fun personalities externally. Curious to see if Falco & Falcon's rivalry/friendship extends to behind the scenes, and I wonder how bitter Richter is that Ike snagged the sandbag on them? Green seems pretty dull externally, but both Dark Pit and King D3 seemed pretty into things in the spectator stands so I wonder how much of what's going on is just bubbling beneath the surface. Unlike Red, which seems like most of the crew is absent or fucked by timezones (I saw Isabelle around during the afternoon, entirely by herself ) it feels like Green has stuff going on, they're all just quiet. I'll probably update my own ranking thread when someone dies or swaps teams or what have you.

Red is definitely the quietest tribe, it makes them good for the duelists to return to. Blue is similar; I'd say whoever survives and goes there is in a super good spot for the next vote at least. Can confirm Richter is a bit pressed that Ike outbid him! The dynamics on Blue are a little different to what you'd expect maybe? I don't think the numbers will whittle down quickly there, but if they do, it would be interesting to see who was left standing. Green is a super active tribe in messages, Piranha Plant probably would have been pretty safe on either of the other teams. Piranha Plant has been PMing only with GIFs and pictures, which is a cool idea, but they haven't really been hitting the nuances and using it to create humour. It fell a bit flat with Green, but seeing how quickly that team filled up I think anyone who headed there might have themselves to blame a bit for that.

I feel like, tragically for Piranha Plant, they've picked the same gimmick as Squirtle (communicating through gifs and images) and thus far Squirtle is just better at it, so they really don't have a leg (root?) to stand on, but they couldn't have known that walking in. I wonder if Red would be a short-term plan for survival? If most of the tribe is super quiet then they might not make the most stalwart or reliable allies in a merge? Or maybe they'd be even better to go to because you can make allies there, rather than having to insert yourself into pre-existing dynamics? I dunno, I haven't played enough of these to actually understand them I'm not super surprised my blind reads on Blue are wrong; they're all playing fun characters in public, but it doesn't give much to go on as a spectator. I am surprised to think someone joining that tribe would be safe. I keep forgetting Yoshi exists because he's not on a team and therefor is functionally invisible to me, but I do want to remind myself how funny it was that D3 was so brutally negative about him in the spectator stands. I wish we could still see the old ones for future reference!
